Today’s the day! I finally get to share the gorgeous cover for Strong Medicine with everybody! So, here it is, the gorgeous cover I designed:
Strong Medicine is a labor of love, as any novel is, and I’ve been hammering and chiseling away at it for more than two years now. Strong Medicine is about the same age as my daughter, Lyra, which is probably one of the reasons this book has resonated so deeply with me during the writing process.
The novel is about a woman whose young daughter is kidnapped by Johannesburg’s most powerful witch doctor. A man known for dealing in human body parts, and well protected by the corrupt police force he has paid off.
Writing about a mother searching for her daughter while raising my own has led me down some dark roads, and I think that the strength of love I feel for Lyra has helped me make this book as good as it is.
At every stage of this novel’s development I was constantly haunted by the fact that a lot of the traditional beliefs I depict are true. Every day we read reports of children, and adults, being abducted and mutilated for traditional medicine. This is a real scourge in our country, and I can only hope that this novel sheds some light on the awful practice of muthi murder.
I’m running a lovely giveaway, including the chance to win an autographed copy of Strong Medicine, just hop on over to Rafflecopter and get sharing!
